Sony PS4 Pro After Thought

What is up gamers and welcome to our after thought of yesterday’s Sony reveal. That is right finally got to see the amazing PlayStation 4 pro which is an update to the previous model sporting all the high-end components that most of us gamers were craving. I mean that 4K support am I right? All right, I can’t keep bullsh*tting you fine gamers for too long, I am not all that excited for the 4K support and the 1tb hard drive because like most of us we had that a long time ago. Thankfully I have a special guest BLaZeD_MaNiAc_ sharing her thoughts on the whole Sony upgrade.

12802876_10153492593541446_2919242850129680019_nWell, gamers the wait is over, with technological milestones all over the consumer market with 4k and virtual reality in the spotlight, Sony has finally opened the doors to the PlayStation 4 Pro. Now I am a long time PlayStation Fan, I currently own a day 1 Ps4 System which I preordered months away from launch. As a tech junkie, it had me in utter awe the second I read the specs of this amazing next gen console hitting the market, I wish I could say the same about the Ps4 Pro. The Ps4 Pro is being marketed as a graphically pretty console, promising to output at 4k video including upscaling all current content to 2160p where supported, but also stating that even if you own an older 1080p,1080i,or 720p HDR, or Hdtv you will benefit from the upgraded console.

Now as a tech enthusiast, this is what really grinds my gears, Both the Ps4 and Ps4 Pro have similar CPU’s with the Pro overclocked at 2.2 GHz capable of 4.20 teraflops, while the Ps4 tops out at 1.84 teraflops overclocked at 1.6 GHz, both, however, have the Same available Memory, and are almost identical systems hardware wise with the exception of the graphic card. So yes it seems like the Pro may be built to run a bit faster, however, its speed is mostly dedicated to displaying 4k, the difference in overall game performance seems like it may be non-existent in online multiplayer games. Let alone It’s like Sony is telling me my day 1 system could display 4k graphics If I was able to upgrade the graphics card and CPU myself along the same lines as how I was able to install a Harddrive.

Then Sony states,

“PS4 Pro’s upgraded processing power will give VR developers the ability to enhance their experiences with higher quality graphics, smoother or more stable framerates, and visual improvements in supported games.”

However, even with the slightly Faster CPU in the Ps4 Pro the Ps Vr itself does not support 4k or HDR display and has it’s own hardware limitations. Some of the major game titles currently available have already announced updates to add support for HDR, and Ps4 Pro. Titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider will have three different viewing modes on PlayStation 4 Pro. There’s 4K Mode, there’s the “High Frame Rate Mode,” which locks the game at 1080p with an unlocked frame-rate between 45-60fps, and “Enhanced Visuals Mode,” which locks the game at 1080p and 30 frames per second, and throws every rendering technique at the game to make it look better.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro will be available November 10th with a Price tag of 399.99(USD), bottom line I personally will not be in line for this “upgrade” console. The Ps4 Pro to me seems like a small stepping stone for the future of console gaming technology, we will see how pretty or pathetic this will be in the months to come.

Thanks to BLaZeD_MaNiAc for sharing her thoughts on the latest Sony PS4 Pro and some in-depth specs on the new system. I want gamers to be aware of what they are getting into and my boy Julio is new to buying a PS4 and asked that burning question, “Is it worth the buy?” For that PS4 no especially if you don’t have a 4K TV or don’t have plans to get one. I think he would be perfectly happy with the previous version or the slim for that matter. In that, we will wait until the release to see it in action.

I want to hear your thoughts on this Sony upgrade, are you for it? Against it? Would you rather they did this for the PS5 if that is even a thing? Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below and please stay civil about. Stay frosty gamers!
