New Gameplay of The Surge

Kill or be killed is an old unwritten law that many have been taught the moment we spoke our first words. For me at least being forced to stand up for myself against bullies or become part of the bottom getting kicked all the time. The Surge gives gamers that same law where you have to survive, assimilate and grow stronger as you defeat enemies. The latest video showcases new game-play as we follow the developers deeper into this new 3rd person action RPG that is slated to release in May 2017 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows.

Combat is challenging and unforgiving. You’ll need to carefully study your enemies, rather than blindly rushing and wildly swinging your weapon without focus. Study their attack patterns and weaknesses, then strike hard and fast – even the weakest of enemies can be deadly!

Thanks to the dynamic targeting system, you can aim at your opponents’ specific limbs to dismember them, in order to loot or craft the attached equipment. Go for the easy kill by hitting unarmored limbs, or attempt to claim a piece of equipment from the enemy by targeting a specific area. Balancing your need to survive against your desire for new equipment is key to moving through the CREO complex.

The visuals look amazing and what really sells me is the fluid combat that you utilize as you take on different enemies. You also have to be mindful of where you need to attack other enemies where you are technically farming while fighting. In a sense, “you keep what you kill!” and yes that is a Riddick reference since after defeating an enemy and removing a body part. That said part now becomes yours to improve and add to your own. I just love that a bit too much.

A Drone companion is always a great feature and I am curious on more upgrades if possible. Focus Home Interactive seems to have another winner on their hands and I can’t see what else is in store in the months to come. – Beast Out –
