Deeper Look into Dead Cells

I am going to start by saying that Dead Cells reminds me of Strider meets Prince of Persia a bit. That is not a bad thing because both games feature some cool levels, great combat mechanics, and interesting puzzles. The dev diary below will dive deeper to explaining some concerns of the community and gives us a deeper look into the minds that creative this new side-scroll action game. Take a look!

Dead Cells is a roguelike, Castlevania-inspired action-platformer, allowing you to explore a sprawling, ever-changing castle… assuming you’re able to fight your way past its keepers. To beat the game you’ll have to master 2D souls-like like combat with the ever present threat of permadeath looming. No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat.

I like the passion that these developers have in trying to bring back an old nostalgic feeling to today’s gamers. As they explain how they loved the adrenaline rush as you go through levels in an intense battle to survive, while at times taking a breather and exploring a bit. There are a few titles that give that same feeling like God of War, Valdis Story, and  Rise & Shine just to name a few. The visuals are amazing and colorful which I can appreciate. Since this is a Roguelike title we are expecting to be challenged quite a bit and will have a full range of choices to go through the levels. The developers also mention that they implemented some ideas from the Dark Souls series with each weapon having its own unique features to help you fight. Seems to me they are living things open for your own skills to help you survive.
