Call of Duty WW II After Thought

Well, it was bound to happen when a genre that is popular from another company forces the same genre from another company to change their style to take in some of the hype. Call of Duty has made its return to World War II and this past weekend we on the PlayStation 4 who pre-ordered got a chance to check out the multiplayer portion of the new title. I will go through the good, the bad and the awkward in this post to share what many people are already stating.

First off my first Call of Duty game started with Call of Duty 3 on the Xbox 360 which was done by Treyarch Studios. For a long time Treyarch has had an interesting take on the genre even going into Modern Warfare, but then Infinity Ward took the reigns of the Black Ops series which to me had a better game engine. Then a third company comes along Sledgehammer Games which brought in more of the future warfare, but the game mechanics were a bit off. It jumps between the three companies as my favorites, but now Sledgehammer dropping the future tech to take us to the past. It is an interesting move and brought in a nice level of nostalgia.

While playing the multiplayer it definitely felt like a lot of COD players felt at home going back to the drop shots, the weird trick shots and of course the quick scoping. It comes with the territory when it comes to multiplayer dealing with the try hards and those knowing how to have fun by doing silly things.

Whats Interesting:

The divisions are a new take on the genre, but only at first glance. You can use any and all weapons, but you will not get the perks in said division. There are four to choose from Infantry, Armored, Airborne, Mountain, and Expeditionary. I trained with Infantry and Armored which sports rifles and shotguns. However, for those looking for more details look at the area below.

  • Division Skill
    Bayonet Charge
    – Special training on the use of the Bayonet makes Infantry riflemen a threat at all ranges. While sprinting press R3 to activate.
  • Division Training
    Infantryman III
    – Two extra attachments on Primary Weapon
    – One attachment on Secondary Weapon

  • Division Skill
Hides muzzle flash and prevents gunfire from appearing on enemy mini-maps but reduced range of weapon. To toggle press left d-pad.
  • Division Training
    Pathfinder III
    – Sprint for longer distance
    – Increased sprint speed
    – Climb over obstacles faster

  • Division Skill
Protect territory by mounting your machine gun Mount on ledges and while prone for less recoil. Press left d-pad to mount.
  • Division Training
    Tanker III
    – Rocket Launcher as Secondary Weapon
    – Extra piece of equipment
    – Throw equipment faster, farther & while sprinting

  • Division Skill
Block out the surroundings and in return acquire aim assist and enemy names. Activated holding breath with L3.
  • Division Training
    Scout III
    – Acquire enemy names from farther away
    – Increased mini-map coverage
    – Hidden to player-controlled streaks

  • Division Skill
    Incendiary Shells
Shotgun rounds which spark flames that burn enemies to death. Press left d-pad to load shells.
  • Division Training
    Sapper III
    – Extra magazines
    – Immune to shell shock and tactical equipment
    – Take less explosive damage

Now personally I am coming from some newer engines and even though I did feel some good vibes from playing COD again. I got super salty really quickly as I was not sure if it was me or the game at times until I had an expert in the genre Lady Arsenic hop on and try it out herself and pretty much felt the same. Let’s see what she has to say.

My main issue is for once cod actually went back to its roots, however it feels so outdated, I’ve even seen some people who never touched battlefield but have been playing games like overwatch, and titanfall complain.
I think those who only play cod will be inlove, but anyone wanting to return will suffer from the lower frames and horid fov.

I have turned up the sensitivity as high as I could to maybe balance that problem out, but I failed. However, the time that I did have a good match was with my little bro from Teh Lunchbox Publications. On a personal level COD to me is a game where you are the one man army. You can be Rambo with no communication if you know what you are doing, but with a player that is all about supporting its team, I fail short to adapt to the game anymore. The one thing that annoyed me with COD is that you go back to a silent room of team members that go out and do their own thing. That can work with TDM, but with you play games like Hardpoint or Domination team work is key. Even though in Domination you will deal with nothing, but campers at the time.

An interesting addition to World War II is War which is pretty much protect the payload from what I played in Warframe. However, you are escorting a tank to attack the other team in waves which you have to attack a base, build a bridge, blow up communications and which leads you leading the death machine to the final point. I think that will be a favorite in COD, but again you will need to be with the right team to communicate properly.

All and all will I be there on day one? Probably not, as stated this game needs some improvements and it is catered to all around Call of Duty players, which I am no longer part of that genre. However, it is what many have asked for and they just need to update the engine to make it fit better to what we are used to now. It definitely has to play catch up with the times.

All right I want to read your thoughts, so please share in the comments section below. Get ready for round two of the beta which will hit both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at the same time on September 1st. I am looking forward to seeing what improvements they will add and hopefully I will join up with a squad I can communicate with. Call of Duty World War II will be released on November 3rd, 2017. – Beast Out
